Lunar Chronicles Bookmark Contest Entry

Um, I took kind of a simplistic approach with not doing too much with colour to the contest idea after scrapping heaven knows how many rough drafts. In the end, I just used what I had, namely a few metallic paints and a black hue as well as a metallic sharpie marker.

The Lunar Chronicles always hit me as a bit of a...mystery, I think might be the right way to say it... Anyway, I was always left with questions upon questions, always wanting to know more about why what happened when it did the way it did, even more so beyond what was told in the story itself. So, as such, I took some inspiration from the covers of the books and used a quote from 'Cinder' that I loved, though it's not the only quote from said book that I liked.

The thin coppery strand should represent the ribbon shown on the cover of 'Cress' that was wound within Cress' braid. The odd-looking coppery half-pinwheel would represent the cloak/shawl shown on the cover of 'Scarlet', though that was the one I had the most trouble planning out. The slipper should be pretty self explanatory with the reference to the cover of 'Cinder'. The apple is also self-explanatory with representing 'Winter', though I made it a little too small because I was running out of room...

I don't know if this seems a bit gaudy or over-the-top, but I sat doing this thing for about five hours working out the designs, attempting to mimic the font used for the Lunar Chronicles, trying to use the metallic acrylics despite the fact that I had only one brush and the fact that no matter how many coats I applied, they stayed as transparent-like as ever...
